The Everett’s are keen and experienced Golden Turkey Farmers at from Hollin Root Farm in Frittenden, Kent. Kim is Secretary of our group – the TFTA and Simon has been in farming for over thirty years. Simon took part in our quick question interview – here’s what he had to say…
How long have you been a farmer / in farming?
32 years.
Do you produce anything else on your farm?
We rear and sell Rare breed Lamb, pork and beef. We also have a holiday let.
What do you do in the first 6 months of the year, when not producing turkeys?
I also manage a 140ha fruit farm, which keeps me very busy. Also, our cattle at home are housed over winter and calve during this time. Then we are lambing the ewes in early spring. So we are never bored!!
Who else do you normally sell Golden Turkeys to?
We mainly sell direct from the farm gate.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Producing top quality products that people return for year after year.
What or who, inspires you?
Producing quality food and supporting the rare and traditional heritage breeds of this Country.

What would you be doing, if you weren’t a farmer?
There is nothing else I would like to do!

None at present but just joined instagram
How has the Corona Virus Pandemic affected your farm life and business?
It is business as usual with regards to farming. Our neighbours have bought our meat rather than use the supermarkets which has been great! The holiday let has had most of it’s bookings either moved or cancelled which has had an impact but we have had some able to stay over the summer and hope people will holiday in the UK more next year.
Are you planning to make changes in the way you promote your Christmas turkeys – if local shows and events are in doubt or cancelled for example?
We attend one local show which has been cancelled. We’ve set up our online shop and will be using social media for the first time.
Are you planning to offer a nationwide delivery service?
This isn’t something that we actively promote and we aren’t looking to do so this year.
