Sales of Christmas Turkeys Surge

Many of our farmers have never had such a busy September. As you may have seen in the media, there has been a surge in early sales of Christmas turkeys which has meant that some of our Golden Turkey Accredited farms have seen their orders up by 250% compared to this time last year. After the huge demand we saw in 2020 for our gold standard British turkeys, many of our farms increased their flocks and overall we have nearly 10% more turkeys this year than we did last Christmas.

However, these are unusual times and with Christmas feeling like it was cancelled for many last year, we know a lot of people are really wanting to push the boat out and have the best Christmas lunch they can afford.

As small, family run UK farms, Golden Turkeys are available either direct from the farm gate, or from quality butchers or farm shops. With fears of shortages on supermarket shelves, this is an excellent time to shop local and support small businesses. You have the benefit of knowing who you are getting your turkey from and that your turkey is pre-ordered and will be ready for you come Christmas time. If you choose to collect your turkey from the farm, many of our members like to go all out with the festivities and it truly is a lovely, family atmosphere. But fear not if you are up to your elbows in present buying and food prep, many of our farms and stockists also offer delivery.

We don’t want anyone to miss out, so our advice is to shop local and shop early to avoid disappointment. Although naturally we think a good turkey is an essential part of Christmas, we think what will really be important this year is being able to celebrate with the loved ones that many of us weren’t able to see last year. So here’s to family, from our family farms to you!
