Our Golden Turkey accredited farmer William Crosse from Holme Farm Turkeys in Ickleford Hertfordshire has taken part in our quick question interview – here’s what he had to say…
How long have you been a farmer / in farming?
55 years.
Do you produce anything else on your farm?
Lamb, pork and cereals.
What do you do in the first 6 months of the year, when not producing turkeys?
Nice break from the turkeys then onto lambing, followed by the field work for the combinable crops.
Who else do you normally sell Golden Turkeys to?
We are purely direct sales, however we do donate a turkey for a few local Christmas raffles.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Being a family run business and working in an outdoor environment.
What or who, inspires you?
Producing local quality food and caring for the local environment.
What was your first job?
Saturday job at Little Hadham garage while at boarding school.
What would you be doing, if you weren’t a farmer?
Something historical or environmental based.
Tea or Coffee?
Coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon.
Favourite Book or Film?
Shawshank Redemption
Favourite Food?
Steak
Best way to relax after a stressful day?
Something on the discovery or history channel.

How has the Corona Virus Pandemic affected your farm life and business?
We have been very fortunate that it hasn’t impacted us a great deal, we have been able to continue usual work.
Are you planning to make changes in the way you promote your Christmas turkeys – if local shows and events are in doubt or cancelled for example?
We haven’t got much planned in regards to shows or events at the moment, however we have a good website and plan to increase our social media activity.
Are you planning to offer a nationwide delivery service?
No – we like to support our local area.
