About The Farm
We are third generation farmers whose core business is beef and sheep farming but have diversified into rearing Free Range Bronze Turkeys for the Christmas market. We are a hill farm situated in the Cairngorms National Park, 1050 feet above sea level and only 12 miles from the Lecht Ski Centre! Whilst being in the middle of nowhere, we are only half an hour drive to the nearest town/villages of Ballater, Alford, Aboyne and Braemar.
We diversified our farm after erecting two poly tunnels three years ago for lambing sheep but they only get used for two months of the year, so we came up with using this asset. After researching turkey farming, we discovered that there are no turkey farms within an hours drive, so fingers crossed we have discovered a niche in the market.
We are committed to producing a small number of excellent quality birds slowly reared the traditional way. Our birds live to full maturity, which is around 6 months. This is double the cost to product, but the flavour is far superior.
The turkey poults one day old when they arrive and are kept inside for the first 8 weeks until they are fully feathered and off the heat. Afterward, they are transferred to our polytunnel where they have access to roam in a grassy field during the day and are shut in at night to protect them from predators. We pride ourselves on the highest turkey welfare and husbandry standards.
Following traditional methods, we dry pluck then game hang our birds for a minimum of 10 days to allow the meat to relax and stay tender while enhancing its natural flavour.
The Stuart family are proud to supply free range, slowly matured, flavoursome and succulent turkeys of the finest quality. The great news is that you can buy them directly from the farm or delivered to our collection points.
